Lake County "Second Chance" Sometimes in our lives things don't go as planned or as we would have liked them to. We make mistakes that are costly, but very good life lessons. Sometimes they are things that we seriously regret, but we cannot change them so we must live with the consequences of our actions. Such is life. Welcome to Lake County Second Chance. Adult Program Mission Statement Our goal is to help Repatriates (ex-offenders) sucessfully re-enter society. We assist our clients in restoring the emotional skills needed for success in life as well as the functional skills needed for success in the work environment. We help our clients help themselves become upstanding members of society thereby becoming a Repatriate. Our motto is "Everbody Deserves a Second Chance" Youth Program Mission Statement To teach our children and youth the educational, societal and life skill foundations that are neccessary to help them become successful in determining career fields and an upstanding member of our communities. Mr. Thomas, at Second Chance, helped me to look at a situation from all sides, walk in the other person’s shoes and define respect before he would let me into the program. While there, I learned to not look or expect anything from anyone except myself. If I did a good job it would be noted at the time that I really needed to be recognized. “I was charged with drug felonies. For me it was a way of life that helped me raise my family. It was easy and fast money, but I could not save or become educated. I met with the Second Chance staff (Gary & Warren). They helped me to find the self-esteem I needed, the confidence to go forward and be able to turn my back to those unpleasant things that were in my past. They told me that the past was to reflect on where I was, the present is who I have become and the future is where I want to be. I might not be able to work where I wanted but if I planned, focused and tried hard enough I could start a new career. I have done that and I have been with the same employer for six (6) years.
